Climate indicators for adaptation measures in rural areas
Our project addresses the urgent need to strategically prepare rural regions for the challenges of climate change. Given the central role that these regions play for the economy and quality of life, a comprehensive and practice-oriented approach is crucial. By combining the local expertise of Stadtwerke Freudenstadt and the research expertise of two KIT institutes, quantitative climate indicators are being developed. These are based on regional experience and high-resolution climate data in order to provide precise recommendations for action. The partnership with VKU Baden-Württemberg ensures a continuous exchange of experience and experts as well as effective feedback of the results to the region. Our aim is to create a prototype for regional adaptation to climate change that will serve as a guide for other municipalities and regions in order to make rural areas sustainable and fit for the future.
